Let recipients reply to your text messages, via 8676
A text message with your company name as the sender looks professional, but the recipient cannot reply to it. With a single checkbox in the SMSBOX portal, now they can. Your messages are then sent with sender 8676, our shared short code, and anyone who replies reaches you directly.
How to switch it on
In the portal, go to Settings and open the Sender tab. Tick Recipients can reply (sender 8676) and click Save. From then on, 8676 is your sender. As long as the box is ticked, you cannot change the sender there.
The new Overview tab shows at a glance whether it is on, together with your other settings.
Where do the replies go?
Replies appear in the portal under Inbox. Each reply received costs 0.5 credit.
Replies only, no unsolicited messages
8676 is a shared number. That is why it only works for replies: someone can only reach you via 8676 by replying to a message you sent them in the last two days. A text someone sends to 8676 on their own does not reach you.
It only works for Belgian mobile numbers.
What if you switch it off?
If you untick the box, your sender is cleared and new messages are no longer sent via 8676. Their recipients therefore cannot reply. Replies to messages you sent earlier via 8676 still arrive within the two days.
Sending via the API
If you do not pass a sender in your API call, the message uses the sender from your settings, so 8676 as well. If you pass a sender yourself, the message is sent with that sender and the recipient cannot reply via 8676.
Do you want customers to be able to text you on their own too, or would you like a number that is yours alone? Then a keyword or a dedicated virtual number is the better choice. Get in touch and we will work out together what suits you.
