SMSBOX — Belgian SMS provider for businesses and organizations

SMS gateway for businesses — one connection for all your business SMS

An SMS gateway is the connection between your organization and the mobile networks. Through SMSBOX you send and receive business SMS from your browser, your own software or simply your mailbox. JAAN bv builds and runs the platform itself, with direct connections with the Belgian operators, servers in Belgian data centers and delivery to more than 200 countries.

Four ways to connect to the SMS gateway

Not every organization wants to write code, and not every software package can call an API. That is why you choose how you connect. You can also combine the four ways within the same account and the same credit balance.

Do you need a permanent SMPP connection for very large, continuous volumes? We only offer that on request. For most use cases the REST API is quicker to set up and easier to maintain.

What you can expect from an SMS provider

The price per message is the first thing everyone looks at, but rarely what makes the difference. Whether you are looking for an SMS provider, an SMS supplier or an SMS service: what counts is whether your messages arrive, whether you can verify that, and whether you can reach someone when things go wrong. This is what you get with SMSBOX as standard:

Direct connections with the Belgian operators, with priority for time-critical messages such as verification codes
A delivery report for every message, in the dashboard or sent automatically to your own system
Two-way traffic: receive replies via a keyword, a virtual number, SIM hosting or the shared shortcode
All processing and storage on Belgian servers; data processing agreement on request
Support in Dutch, French and English, directly by phone
No subscription, no setup fee: you pay per message sent and credits stay valid for a year

SMS gateway, SMS API or SMS provider?

The terms get used interchangeably. The gateway is the service that delivers your messages to the operators, the API is one of the ways to connect to it, and the provider or supplier is the company that runs the gateway. At SMSBOX that is one and the same company.

Pay per message

What does it cost?

For the SMS gateway you pay no subscription, no setup fee and no annual fee. You buy credits when you need them, or you pay afterwards by invoice. The larger the package, the lower the price per message.

  • One SMS to Belgium or the Netherlands costs 1,6 credits; the bigger the package, the lower the price per message
  • Prepaid credits, no subscription or setup fee
  • Credits stay valid for one year

Frequently asked questions about the SMS gateway

An SMS gateway connects your organization to the mobile networks. You send and receive SMS from your browser, your own software or your mailbox, without managing SIM cards, modems or operator contracts yourself. The gateway takes care of delivery and returns a delivery status for every message.
You only pay per message sent, from €0.06 per SMS to Belgium (excl. VAT) at high volumes. There is no subscription, no setup fee and no annual fee. Credits stay valid for a year and you will find the rate for other countries per country on the rates page.
Via the REST API with an API key. There is an OpenAPI specification, a Postman collection, an open source PHP SDK and sample code. If your software package cannot call an API but can send e-mail, you use Mail2SMS. Ready-made integrations exist for WordPress, WooCommerce, Zapier and Microsoft Teams.
Yes. SMSBOX is the SMS platform of JAAN bv, which has built and run it itself since 2000. All processing and storage takes place on servers in Belgian data centers, within the EU, and a data processing agreement is available on request. Support is provided in Dutch, French and English.
Every message gets its own delivery status from the network, such as delivered, buffered, not delivered or expired. You check it in the dashboard or have it sent automatically to your own system via a webhook.
Yes. Recipients can reply via a keyword on a shared number, a dedicated virtual number, SIM hosting or the shared shortcode. Replies appear in the conversation view and can be forwarded via webhook or e-mail.
To more than 200 countries from the same account. For Belgium, messages run over direct connections with the operators. For each destination you see the rate and the supported networks in advance.
Only on request, for very large and continuous volumes. The standard connection is the REST API: it is quicker to set up, easier to maintain and sufficient for most use cases, including bulk sends.
Yes. By default you buy a credit package upfront, but business customers can apply for payment by invoice. In addition, you can have your balance topped up automatically, so a send never stalls because of an empty balance.
