What is an SMS gateway?
An SMS gateway is a service that connects software applications to the mobile networks, so you can send and receive SMS messages programmatically — via an API or a web interface, without having to manage telecom infrastructure yourself.

How does an SMS gateway work?
Your application sends a message to the gateway (via the REST API, Mail2SMS or the web interface). The gateway converts it to the right network protocol and delivers it to the recipient via a mobile operator. Delivery reports flow back, so you can track the status of every message. In short:

- Send — You pass the recipient(s) and the message text.
- Deliver — The gateway routes the message via the operator to the device.
