How do you make opting out run smoothly?
Opting out looks like the part you would rather keep small. In practice it decides whether your channel keeps working in the long run.
Why a hard opt-out costs more
Anyone who cannot opt out easily complains to the operator. Those complaints attach to your sender and affect the delivery of all your messages — including those to customers who are glad to hear from you.
How it should work
One word is enough, usually STOP. No login page, no form, no confirmation email. Process it immediately and confirm briefly.
What you do not do
Re-adding somebody who opted out six months ago because they turned up in a new export. That is the most common mistake, and it comes from mixing lists from different systems. Keep one central block list that always takes precedence.
Watch the figure
A sudden spike in opt-outs says more about your last campaign than a good click rate. Track it per campaign, not per year.
