SMS on site: construction firms and scheduling
On a building site nobody reads email. People phone, and that costs the planning desk hours a week.
To the crew
Where they start tomorrow, which site is postponed because of weather, what materials are being delivered. One message to the group replaces ten calls.
To the customer
When you are coming, and above all when you are not. A customer who took a day off for nothing remembers that longer than the work itself.
To suppliers
Confirmation of a delivery and the time window. Materials arriving when nobody is there is a double cost.
Keep it factual
Address, time, what is happening. No explanation of why something was postponed; you have that conversation on the phone.
What it returns
Mostly time in the office. Work out how many calls your planning desk makes a day and what share of those is a confirmation or a change — that is the share that disappears.
