What are SMS subaccounts and when do you need them?
Subaccounts split one account into separated parts, each with its own access and its own figures.
When it becomes useful
As soon as more than one department or location sends. Without separation all messages sit together, everybody can reach everything, and nobody knows which part of the cost belongs to whom.
What you arrange with them
A budget or limit per subaccount, so one department cannot drain the balance. Separate users, so somebody leaving only loses access there. And separate reporting, so you can recharge costs.
For anyone sending on behalf of clients
If you work as an agency or software supplier, a subaccount per client is the way to keep traffic and invoicing apart without opening a separate contract for each one.
What to think about up front
Who may create subaccounts, and who sees the figures for the whole? Answering those two questions prevents the mess that otherwise builds up within a year.
